A hallway is a room if you put a bench in it

Most hallways are treated as leftover width. Shoes colonise the floor. Coats colonise the door. Nobody planned a seat, so nobody sits to take the shoes off.
A bench 35 cm deep with a hook rail above it turns the chute into a pause. In the studio, check that the bench still leaves a pass for a suitcase and that the door can open past a winter coat on the hook.
Mirrors help these spaces more than extra storage. They throw the front light back and make the pause feel intended.
If the bench fails the suitcase test, a wall-hung rail and a single stool that tucks beside the radiator is the honest version of the same idea.
