The showroom price includes a train you should not have to take

People pay a premium in a physical shop for the right to sit and frown. That frown is information: the seat is harder than the photo, the colour is colder than the site.
If you can frown in the studio — scale, colour in your lamp, the walkway — the train ride has less to sell you. What remains is touch, which still matters for leather and loose weave.
A hybrid is sane: shortlist at home, touch the finalist if it is in town, skip the day of wandering past things that were never going to fit.
Price should buy the piece and the certainty. When the certainty can be had on the laptop, paying extra for fluorescent lighting and a parking ticket is a habit, not a need.
