A coffee table you cannot reach is a sculpture

The gap between sofa and table is the most lived-in measurement in a lounge and the one people guess. They guess wide, because wide looks airy in a photograph.

Set the table in the studio at 40 cm from the seat. Put a book on it in your head. If you would stand up to put the book down, the table is too far or too low.

Large square tables in small rooms become islands that split the walk to the balcony. A rectangular table aligned with the sofa, or two smaller nests, keeps a path.

Sculpture can sit on the table. The table itself has to work like a tool.
