A dining table used as a desk never really becomes a dining table again. The charger nest, the stack of paper, the chair at laptop height — they stay. The room keeps working after you have stopped.
A shallow secretary, a drop-leaf, or a desk that faces a wall rather than the sofa gives the day a hinge. When the leaf goes up, the work is present. When it goes down, the lounge can be a lounge.
Check the closed depth in the studio, not only the open span. A secretary that is 45 cm closed and 90 cm open is two different neighbours to the sofa.
If you have to work in the living room, the furniture should admit that and still let the evening start. A permanent command centre in the middle of the rug will not.
