In a studio flat, one rug is a floor plan

A one-room flat asks furniture to do the work of doors. The rug is the cheapest door you can buy. It says: sleep happens here, eating happens there.

Do not run one pale carpet from the pillow to the fridge. The eye reads a hotel corridor. Stop the lounge rug at the sofa's front legs and leave the kitchen on the boards or on a washable runner.

In the studio you can see whether the sofa still sits fully on its rug — front legs on, back legs on is the version that looks planted — without unrolling anything.

If both zones need softness, two smaller rugs that do not match exactly are clearer than one huge one that pretends the room is a suite.
