Let inherited pieces vote before you buy their replacements

Udgivet

New catalogs are persuasive. Old objects are quiet. In a rush to make a coherent room, people exile the only piece that could not be ordered again.

Photograph the room with the inherited table or cabinet in place and drop new candidates around it. If nothing in the catalog can sit beside it without a fight, the catalog may be the narrow one.

Refinishing a top is cheaper than replacing a history. A cloth, a runner, a set of new chairs can shift the decade the table belongs to.

Coherence is a luxury. Belonging is a better one. Give the old piece a year of good neighbours before you call a carrier.
